For the year 2002 - 03

Dear members we feel pleasure to present before you the annual activity report of the organization for the year 2002 - 03.

A. TRUST

1.      As per the work plan we have developed and hosted the organization’s website with URL address -. http://www.aicmeu.org/. All information related to the organization is uploaded at this address. Any body can access it from anywhere. The interactive database programme is due for addition to the existing features of the web site.  The said programme is under testing and error stage.

B. AICMEU’S EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION AND VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE

The work plan for Employment division was set with an expectation to develop interactive database Internet programme. But as the said programme was not ready, the work plan of this division suffered and we could not meet the target set for the year 2002-03. However this division has shown a growth trend in present system of service.

  1. As compared to previous year the center has increased the number of registered jobseekers by 61.79%. During 2001-02 this number was 780, which has increased to 1262 in 2002-03.

  1. Similarly the number of interviews arranged has a growth of 126.26% as we arranged total 3041 interviews in 2002-03 compared to 1344 in 2001-02.

  1. The number of vacancies received has declined by 1.37%. In 2002-03 total 945 vacancies were received which has fallen to 932 in 2002-03.

  1. However the number of candidates employed has increased by 6.93%, as in the year 2001-02 we helped 418 jobseekers to secure jobs, which has increased to 447 in the year 2002-03.

5.      To improve the skill and caliber of the jobseekers the scheduled plans were taken up since May 2002.  Total 12 Training and Vocational guidance programme were organized at AICMEU’S J. R. Career Centre, where 200 jobseekers were trained. The focal point during these programmes was to develop their personality skill and caliber to face the interviews.

6.      To save the time and traveling of Jobseekers the Centre has also started issuing the Identity card to applicants, who suffice them to produce at the time of interviews and thus they need not to come to collect the interview call letters for each interview.

C.  AICMEU’S J. R. CAREER CENTRE

1.      Four new Celeron Pentium III computer systems have been added to the existing stock of eight systems at Computer Centre. Beside addition of new systems, the old Pentium Computers have been improved by upgrading the hardware configurations.

2.     The Computer Division has completed two years of establishment and entered into the third year of NCPUL scheme. Due to financial problems as well as unavailability of efficient faculties, the 2nd batch had more dropouts compared to 1st year batch. Out of 54 admitted, 14 have left the course during the year, while 40 appeared in final examination. The result has been declared and 11 out 40 have got distinction marks while 29 have achieved 1st class marks. The certificates to the students were distributed during the closing ceremony of the Third Kul Hind Urdu Kitab Mela, (held during 4th to 12th January 2002) at M. H. Saboo Siddik Polytechnic, Mumbai - 08. As this book fair was organized by NCPUL, our computer Centre has extended its full cooperation to make it successful.

3.      This year we have admitted 60 students for the session October 2002 to September 2003. Most of the students admitted are from poor family background and thus seeking financial assistance. Though Dr. Hamidullah Bhatt (Director NCPUL) during his visit (on 1st January 2003) to the Centre has approved to grant fee concession to all the poor students, it would be in better interest of the Centre to arrange fee for the poor students otherwise we would not be able to maintain the corpus as per NCPUL requirement.

4.       The Centre has admitted 80 students (40 each for class 9th and 10th standard) for remedial coaching during the year 2002-03. The students were coached during the period of April to December 2002. They have appeared in their examinations and their results are awaited.  Though the result of previous year’s coaching had improved the result of J. R. School by 15%, it was not sufficient for continuation of financial support from MAEF, New Delhi.  Hence the grant discontinued.

1.     The institute is located in slum area of Mumbai. Students are unable to pay required fee. Poor salary is a reason of lacking efficient and dedicated teachers, which affects the result of the institute and in turn reveals poor admission and fee collection as well. Thus the institute is trapped under a short of vicious circle of poor educational and financial management.

2.    Even after all adversity this institute is helping the poor students to develop their career in vocational courses. Majority of successful students from this institute are earning 4 to 5 digit monthly income after gainful occupation.

3.     To cover up the losses the staff have tried to develop the service center but they were unable to bring enough work order from the open market to get reasonable profits from the service center. The business of the service center is very irregular and not sufficient to cover even the infrastructure cost.

E. AICMEU’S SCHOLARSHIP DIVISION

1.      During the year 2002-03, AICMEU’S Scholarship Division has benefited total 203 students. ASD has granted monthly scholarships to 43 students perusing in medical and engineering courses, while with the help of Sahayta trust (Hyderabad) we granted and paid annual scholarship of Rs. 600 to 160 primary school students.

2.      ASD helped SIT, Delhi to organize three days Pre-selection Interview seminar for IDB Jeddah. This seminar was organized in October 2002 at Hajj house, Mumbai where 72 students (of Medical, Engineering and Management streams) of Maharashtra participated and gained Islamic knowledge during their interview seminar. The interview penal has submitted the short listed candidates details to SIT / IDB for approval and grant of Scholarship.
