AICMEU’S EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

AND VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE CENTRE

25 Years Performance Report (198-85 to 2008-09)

Considering the fact that around 25% unemployment in the Indian labour market is only due to lack of information about suitable placement opportunities; in way back 1984-85, AICMEU initiated to arrange and disseminate employment information services to local jobseekers and enterprises. Considering the poor experiences of jobseekers in terms of facing interviews and proving their worthiness for suitable job opportunities, AICMEU feel the need to cater guidance and training services to the jobseekers. Thus we organized a number of workshops, seminars, symposiums, refreshers training and guidance Programme during the years we have served the community. A brief outline of such services may be viewed hereunder: -

Beside these programmes it was also felt that there should be at least one centre where the jobseekers could get some information and guidance for job opportunities whereas the enterprises could use the pool of jobseekers to select suitable manpower for their works. Thus AICMEU in way back 1984-85, established a Centre at Bhendi Bazar in the heart of Mumbai city to facilitate the jobseekers to hunt for jobs and employers get suitable personal for their works. This motivated the people of Calcutta and Kanpur to work on same pattern.  During last 25 years (1984-85 to 2008-09) our Centre registered 19,686 jobseekers, whereas local employers asked for suitable personals to fill up 18,441 vacancies in their enterprises. In response, we organized 35,050 interviews calls and successfully placed 8,131 candidates at local employment market in the unorganized sector. The year wise statistical report of the centre is mentioned in the following table. We also provided counseling and guidance services to train 1,731 job applicants so that they could appear before job interviews in a better way–

With help of some activists in overseas job markets, AICEMU got information about some genuine job opportunities in Gulf Market. With help of Personal Export Organizations, we managed to run overseas jobseekers club whereby we assisted 35 persons to got jobs in gulf countries on free of charges. Beside this we have also been assisting a few national / international recruitment agencies in conducting interviews and job training Programmes. We have been proud to serve the HRD Dean to conduct interview Programme for recruiting staff for International Telecom University, Kaulalampur, Malaysia.

Considerable during last 25 years some of the jobseekers placed through AICMEU’s Employment Information and Vocational Guidance Centre got not only got suitable job opportunity but with their ability and courage, after gaining experiences, they have wither moved to higher managerial post or have started their own small scale enterprises.

After serving the local jobseekers and employers in the unorganized sector for over 20 years, we at AICMEU felt the need of developing an internet based employment programme for the jobseekers and employers associated with focus in the unorganized sector. So, the process initiated and development works begin in year 2003 and we finally developed a job portal in the name of www.login4job.Com to spread the services to other places as well with the help of social activists and NGOs. This is different from job portals managed by many MNCs in a manner that with the help of social activists and NGOs, it is supposed to serve even the illiterate workers because we have added job information centre in the portal where NGOs and social activists could work as Hon. Counselors for the jobseekers to fill up their profiles and disseminate relative job information to them. Though this database programme was first launched on 26th January 2005, after some technical errors / disturbances, the programme re-started its working w.e.f. 14th March 2005.

During 14th March 2005 to 31st March 2009, it induced total 9,432 job applicants register for job information, while total 2,190 vacancies posted by 173 employers. However, the system flashed over 19,000 e mails to employer and equal numbers to jobseekers about probability of suitable matches. In during this period 210 persons / organizations took interest to help the local people through our portal www.login4job.com . There list and details are available as Info Centres on website.

After running for over four years, this database programme noticed some constraints like not able to filter data on basis on location, additional qualification and specialization in trade and services. So, at present this programme is being upgraded to enable the admin filter relevant data on base of these parameters as well. Hopefully by December 2009, the database programme will be upgraded to serve the job market in even better way.
